Overview or notes pertaining to lesson:
Students will learn how to use editing marks to fix and improve their writing.
Mini Lesson:
Authors never write their stories perfectly the first time. It is necessary for writers to edit their stories to make them better. Today we will learn how to do that. Model reading through your story and ask students to notice things you missed or need to add, or maybe things that don’t make sense or don’t flow. Show students how to use editing marks to add words, fix something, add punctuation, etc. You may want to make a chart showing the marks and what they mean.
Guided Practice:
Allow students to practice using editing marks on the floor. Check for understanding.
Independent Practice:
Send them to their seats to finish edit and begin writing the final draft.
Closing:
Review editing and why it is necessary.
