Mairah Teli, 24, a Dacula High School teacher in Gwinnett County was left a threatening message by an anonymous student this past Friday in her classroom. The student left a note to Ms. Teli telling her that her headscarf “isnt allowed anymore.”
Mairah Teli teaches language arts. She is of the opinion that the note is a reaction to Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential race.
Ms. Teli attached a message to her Facebook post where she said,
“I’m a high school teacher and sadly this anonymous note was put in my classroom today. As a Muslim, I wear a headscarf as a practice of my faith. I want to share this to raise awareness about the reality and climate of our community. Spreading hate isn’t going to “make America great again.”

Speaking to the AJC, Miss Teli said that she felt “shocked and disturbed but worked to be measured when she addressed the class. She told the students she was happy to speak with them if there were questions about her hijab.”
