Answering questions on a slavery-anticipation-guide quiz, a student at a post elementary Midwest school responded to the questions with a level of disdain and indifference that may rattle anyone with the smallest hint of decency and conscience.
The student is of the position that slavery was no big deal. Outlining what he knows about slavery, the student replied that slavery was when ‘blacks worked for us whites. Like it should be.”
Replying to where in the world slavery is still experienced, the student replied:
“China? Korea? Hell if I know.”
How or why do people become enslaved? The student replied nonchalantly, “because that is how history works!” to further highlight that point, the student rhetorically asked, “How do people become gay? That is how their mind works! So let me ask; why is the fags flag ok but the confederate flags not! It’s unfair and the entire world is going to hell because of it! #Trump2016.”
It is troubling that students of this age have such an ignorant and incapacious view of the world. Laced with pride and privilege, it is evident that this student has an established outlook of this world that he/she has been brainwashed into by his/her subculture. This begs the question: is racism and bigotry taught? If so, by whom?
