Have you ever been in the position of wanting to show someone something on your computer? No?! How about this? Have you ever tried to give someone step by step directions about how to use a particular software? I bet you have. Well, sharing your computer screen or having someone share their screen with you is a very effective way of teaching or giving tutorials.

Below, I have compiled a list of software that can be used to easily screen-share. Most of the ones that I am presenting here are either free or free to use for a limited time period. They are in no specific order and my hope is that you will let us know about the ones that do not work very well for you. Most of them require no additional software download to run their application. However, the ones that require software download to run will have a link that says “visit and download”. The ones that require no additional software download will be marked with a “visit” link.

Quick Screen Share

Quick Screen Share is my pick for number one. Very simple to use and it works really well. No nonsense approach. Just add your name and select whether you want to share your screen or view another’s screen. To top things off there is no need to download any additional software to your computer.[visit]

ScreenLeap

ScreenLeap is very similar to Quick Screen Share, however, you can only share your screen. Therefore, if grandma wants help with her computer you will have to point her to that website address and she will have to share her screen with you.[visit]

TeamViewer

I like TeamViewer and I highly recommend it for personal use if you frequently help people out with their computers and you actually need remote control of their devices. TeamViewer also has Apps for Androids and IOS powered devices and it is totally free for personal use. If you have a business and you offer tutorials or product demonstrations over the web you will want to use this application. [visit]

Yugma

Yugma offers much more than just screen sharing. Actually, Yugma is a very powerful web meeting software that has the ability to do screen-sharing. Therefore, you can host and join webinars with this software. The screenshare option is free for 1 viewer and limited to 60 minutes.So, if you are showing something that will take more than 60 minutes and you want to do it for free, then this software is not what you are looking for currently. However, should you decide that you need more time, you can upgrade at any time without even leaving the meeting. [visit]

Skype

Maybe the most popular and widely used application on this list. Very few people use skype beyond the regular IM, video chat and the VOIP calls. Yes, you can also use Skype to share your screen for free and send files. Also, Skype is one of those apps that falls under a category I call “omnipresent apps, ” as they seem to be everywhere. Webex

Webex allows you to have meetings online. As a part of the many tools that are included in the software, you can share your screen with up to 3 people for free.[visit]

I have compiled a list of the best screen recorders. Give these free applications a try and find the one that best suits your needs. Some of the applications below are totally free, while others have various limitations, such as watermarks and limited recording times.

Screen-O-Matic

There are two versions of Screen-O-Matic available, the free version and the Pro version. Some of the limitations of the free version include: 15 minutes of free recording and the Screen-O-Matic watermark is displayed on all videos. However, the Pro version has a lot of features that you may find useful if you are in need of the bells and whistles. BSR Screen Recorder-O.S: Windows 7

BSR Screen Recorder will capture and record anything that you see on your screen and records to AVI (Standard Video Format), SWF (Flash File), WMV (Windows Media Video), and EXE (Executable File). This software is totally free and may be a good option for you. [visit]

uTIPu TipCam

The TipCam has many features that you will find in commercial competitors, such as the ability to zoom and highlight your cursor in the recording. The TipCam allows for either FLV or web sharing. Recorded videos can be uploaded directly to Youtube. [visit]

Camtasia Studio

Camtasia is a very popular screen recording and editing software that is used by many organizations. This is a well established organization. Therefore, you may take solace in the fact that your purchased software will be supported and very stable. This software may prove more than what is necessary for the casual user.

FastStone Capture

This is a very lightweight application that will leave a small footprint on your computer. This software is very easy to use and you will find that the learning curve is a pretty small one.
