Former Chief Superintendent of Georgia Schools, Dr. John Barge, relinquished his post to make a failed bid to become Georgia’s Governor. He was defeated by incumbent Governor, Nathan Deal. His previous position was consequently awarded to Richard Woods in the 2014 elections by Georgia’s electorate.
Dr. Barge subsequently has been out of a job since leaving office. However, on April 23, 2015, Dr. Barge was awarded the position of the School Superintendent for the McIntosh School district in rural Georgia (population- 14, 007). Prior to him accepting this post, Dr. Barge was a finalist to become the Superintendent of Hoover City Schools in Hoover, Alabama. According to the Hoover Sun ” Dr. John D. Barge, former Georgia State Superintendent of Schools, called Hoover Board President Donna Frazier today (April 16, 2015) to withdraw from consideration. Barge told her he has accepted another position in Georgia.”

McIntosh Board of education serves a population of just over 1400 students. Dr. Barge replaces the ousted former Superintendent, Dr. William Hunter. Dr. Hunter’s contract with the district was terminated. Under the separation agreement, Hunter’s departure has been classified as”a disagreement over a personnel issue“(NorthWest Georgia News, 2013). I guess Dr. Barge wanted to get as far out of town as possible.
