I actually have never made sugar cookies before. This Christmas sugar cookie recipe was easy to make and they taste great! They seem to taste even better the next day.
1 1/2 cups softened butter
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
5 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt gradually. I don’t know if it matters, but I used a wooden spoon to do this, mostly because I thought my beater was going to die after beating the butter.
Cover and chill dough for at least one hour. I chilled overnight.
Preheat oven to 400. We used a 375 oven. The dough was super sticky, so we used a lot of flour to roll out the dough. Roll to 1/4 or 1/2 inch thickness. Cut using cookie cutters, which we also floured. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 6-8 minutes. Cool completely then decorate. We used powdered sugar and whipping cream to make the frosting, then we colored it and topped the cookies with sprinkles and colored sugar crystals.
