Students will learn about the short e sound with the pattern cvc.
Review what the short e sound sounds like. Pull up starfall on the smartboard and go through the e lesson for review. Then call students to the floor to brainstorm a list of short e words. First you add a word or two to the list showing the short e sound.
Allow students to share short e words they can think of and start noticing any patterns or rules for words with short e. Lead into the spelling pattern, cvc. You may have to review what consonants and vowels are at this time as well. Also discuss any words on the list that don’t follow the cvc pattern.
Allow students to add words to the list on their own.
Share words we have not yet discussed that also follow the cvc pattern.
