Overview or notes pertaining to lesson:
Students will learn how the cvc spelling pattern makes the short a sound.
Have students start brainstorming words with a in them, and put them on the chart paper in columns. Don’t label the columns yet, but sort according to short a, long a, and anything that doesn’t really fit in those categories.
Guide students to come to a conclusion about how you sorted the words. Explain that we are again practicing the cvc spelling pattern with the short a sound, just like we had with short e.
See if students can come up with any more short a words to add to the chart.
Review the short a sound and the cvc pattern.
