
The Georgia Department of Education is doing some spring cleaning on the Social Studies Performance Standards. The proposed standards are currently open for a 30-day public review. Survey opportunities close on June 3, 2016, 5:00 P.M. E.S.T. If approved, the standards will be implemented in the 2017-2018 school year. The 2016-2017 school year will be used to get teachers up-to-speed on the new Social Studies Performance Standards through teacher training.
Earlier in the school year, the GADOE sent out a survey asking for public feedback on the current standards. According to the DOE, the review was carried out by “teachers, parents and families, students, business and industry, and committee members to participate through surveys and committees.”
