This is a Georgia Fourth Grade Science activity. Students will be read an article about the structure of the Solar System. Students will learn about the order of the planets as they stand today. This article mentions the reclassification that Pluto received. Students will also learn about the origin of the names of the planets. Students will learn that the planets as they stand today are named after the gods of the Romans and the Greeks, except the planet Earth.
S4E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars and planets.
d. Construct an argument on why some stars (including the Earth’s sun) appear to be larger or
brighter than others. (Clarification statement: Differences are limited to distance and size, not age or stage of
evolution.)
